SCIMS Web services

The Survey Control Information Management System (SCIMS) is supported by a series of web-services enabling live information of SCIMS information to be embedded into GIS packages and mapping applications.

These web services will provide GDA94 coordinates (with Class and Order) or GDA2020 coordinates (along with new Positional and Local Uncertainty values, where available) for SCIMS Survey Marks in NSW. This supports recent amendments to legislation (PDF 71.4 KB) which will require MGA2020 on land survey plans from 1 January 2020.

Whilst these web services enable quick and easy access to SCIMS coordinates, SCIMS online should still be used for any coordinate or height for a PSM to be quoted on a plan as it carries with it a transaction number that is legally traceable for audit processes.

Note on WGS84

WGS84 (and its Web Mercator projection) are the defacto standard for many web mapping applications. Users should be aware of potential accuracy issues concerning WGS84, when working with datasets of metre-level accuracy or better.

WGS84 is a time-dependent datum and metre-level misalignments can occur when a timestamp is not provided. Refer to this WGS84 information sheet (PDF 244.5 KB).

Where DCS Spatial Services provides data and web services in WGS84, these will be provided in WGS84@1994.0 (i.e. the nominal equivalent of GDA94) unless otherwise indicated, to align with existing cached GDA94 and WGS84 data in Australia.

Existing SCIMS GDA94 Service – To be deprecated

[CRS: WGS84; GDA94 attributes for SCIMS marks] [Formats REST, WMS, SOAP]

This service provides GDA94 coordinates, heights and related information for NSW survey marks that form the official State control survey network (as reported in SCIMS). As the new services are adopted this service will be phased out.

New SCIMS GDA94 Services

[CRS: WGS84, GDA94 ; GDA94 attributes for SCIMS mark] [Formats REST, WMS, WFS, SOAP]

This service provides GDA94 coordinates, heights and related information for NSW survey marks that form the official State control survey network (as reported in SCIMS). This service controls the precision of numerical output in a manner that mirrors SCIMS Online.

New SCIMS GDA2020-transformed-to-GDA94 Services

To be deprecated on 1 July 2020

[CRS: WGS84; GDA2020 attributes for SCIMS marks, explicitly expressed as WGS84@1994.0] [Formats REST, WMS, WFS, SOAP]

This service provides attributes describing GDA2020 coordinates, heights and related information for NSW survey marks that form the official State control survey network (as reported in SCIMS), but plotted in their GDA94 locations (explicitly expressed as WGS84@1994.0) to assist with mapping applications and to align with other datasets that are in GDA94. For more background information, refer to this WGS84 information sheet. This service controls the precision of numerical output in a manner that mirrors SCIMS Online.

New SCIMS GDA2020 Services

[CRS: WGS84, GDA2020; GDA2020 attributes for SCIMS marks] [Formats REST, WMS, WFS, SOAP]

[CRS: GDA94 is available where transformation is explicitly defined in the request]

This service provides GDA2020 coordinates, heights and related information for NSW survey marks that form the official State control survey network (as reported in SCIMS), plotted in their GDA2020 locations (equivalent to WGS84@2020). This service controls the precision of numerical output in a manner that mirrors SCIMS Online.
