What we do

Spatial Services, a division of the Department of Customer Service, provides New South Wales’ spatial and land information services.

Our authoritative data products provide the foundation to NSW’s mapping and spatial information systems and are used for building better services across the community, government, industry and the environmental sectors.

Authoritative spatial and land information is a vital tool that enables the community, business and government to derive maximum benefit from land and property information to generate economic growth and prosperity. Spatial information is also increasingly used in socio-economic and demographic applications.

Our customer service focus

Spatial Services connects the people of NSW to a comprehensive package of land/property and spatial services including property information, surveying and mapping. Spatial Services provides land information to individuals, businesses, and government agencies. This information informs government and business, allowing them to tailor products and services to better meet the needs of the people of NSW.

You can access our services online by visiting the SIX Maps Service Portal.

Surveying

Spatial Services implements and monitors standards for the survey industry in NSW. It does this by conducting examination surveys in known areas of unreliable survey data and audit surveys of recently lodged plans.

State Survey Control Data is a comprehensive network of permanent marks with known latitude, longitude and height using a common coordinate system. The State Control Survey Dataset provides certainty and confidence when establishing property locations, boundaries and the construction of public infrastructure. It is an essential tool for surveyors and those who deal with geographically related information and is available to registered users online, as well as by traditional methods.

Spatial products and services

Spatial Services converts the wealth of spatial and land data it collects into a comprehensive and authoritative range of online and hard copy geospatial mapping products and services. These products and services help support a vast range of community, business and government activity - everything from tourism and land management, to electoral boundaries and bushfire control.

As the official source of spatial and land information for NSW, Spatial Services is responsible for maintaining cadastral boundaries and topographic data for the State. It provides imagery, elevation and depth, hydrography, transport, administrative boundaries, place names and addressing information, and comprehensive spatial modelling services which tailor spatial information to meet specific needs.

Innovative projects

Spatial Services is undertaking innovative projects (based on the Foundation Spatial Data Framework (FSDF)) to streamline government processes in terms of planning, design and modelling for NSW’s future needs. Read more about our projects here.
